| Just wondering what everyone thought of remakes of TV programs, films etc. I just noticed the other day that some companies see the success of certain TV shows and decide they have to remake them... But I've always gone by "If it ain't broke don't fix it". Sorry if this turns out to be a rant but I found out they did a remake of 'Life On Mars' recently so I thought I'd give it a fair chance but then I heard the ending -shiver- - Spoiler:
It turns out they're all on a space exploration mission to find Life... On Mars... Talk about taking the title literally. And if that wasn't bad enough, Gene Hunt is Sam Tyler's father! -Confused-
And then I've heard they're remaking one of my favourite films 'Death at a Funeral' but they've used pretty much the same jokes and the trailers were nearly identical! Anyway, I don't really like remakes; I think they're mostly pointless especially with a program like Life On Mars which was already internationally successful. Rant over. Your thoughts?

| Oh that's the American version on Life On Mars isn't it?? Talk about a lame ending. I haven't seen or heard about the British ver. ending, but it's most likely way better. Usually I hate remakes. They always ruin the movie/series. Take, Friday 13'th for instance: - Spoiler:
Original: it's Jason's mother, Pamela, who is the killer. Jason only shows up right at the end (still a child). Remake: it has the same name, but at the begining of the movie you see Pamela die & apparently Jason (as an adult) was watching & then goes around killing people in the woods surrounding the camp.
The remake of the movie apparently takes place after the events that happened in the original one, so why call it a remake?? I don't get it...It was awful imo anyway. Oh & the remake of Nightmare On Elm Street, is apparently meant to be really, really bad too. No-one can replace Robert Englund as Freddie, imo. I don't know why they bothered. Rob Zombie's remake on Halloween (1) wasn't too bad, but I still prefered the original. So, 98% of the time the originals are better. I've yet to see a remake that's better than the original. I wish they would stop making them to be honest.

| Remakes usually do suck. They never have that same good quality to it the original movies had. Sometimes, the story is the same with sequels. Sometimes the sequels aren't as good as the first movie. | |

| Agreed. Sequels usually go badly due to the fact that the company is just trying to milk a popular series for money, rather than actually putting in the same amount of concentration & effort that they did for the first one imo.
Here's a few:
Saw - the first one isn't that bad, for a modern horror movie & then they went & ruined it by making all those sequels.
Pirates of the Caribbean - Again, first one is brilliant & it's a shame the other two aren't as good. (I'm absolutely dreading the forth).
Fast & The Furious - I enjoyed the first one, but the next in two the series are awful. I can't say anything about the third sequel as I haven't seen it & I don't really want to.
I suppose the only sequels that vary in being better or worse is the Bond series. Some of the movies are brilliant & then some of them are just dire (<- the one's with Roger Moore in XD).

Oh God, I H-A-T-E Saw. It's disgusting!! I only saw like, a few parts and it's still creepy. I hate all horror movies, unless they're not too gory.
I hate movies like: The Hills Have Eyes(ESPECIALLY THIS ONE, YUCK.), Nightmare On Elm Street, Chucky(it wasn't THAT bad, though), Paranormal Activity, The Unborn, etc.
Yuck, gory stuff is a total no-no for me.

| Meh, I don't think Saw is sickening in any way, as I quite like gorey films, but those movies go overboard & pratically coat the walls in it & it just ends up looking sillly. The Hills Have Eyes original had some blood, but not too much. They tried to go more off the suspence rather than the gore, unlike the remake >.<. The Unborn doesn't really have a lot of blood in it either (apart from where a girl gets stabbed to death) & I didn't find it scary in the slightest. I just found it boring, just like every horror movie that comes out nowadays. Clash Of The Titans remake is crap imo. I can't compare it to the original, but it is just an awful movie. Don't know why they even called it "clash of the titans" when the Titans, who were mothers & fathers of some of the Gods of Olympus, don't come into the movie at all . | |
